RSpec Backtraces
For your sanity, include ‘—backtrace’ in your spec.opts file when using RSpec. It’ll help you a lot when you encounter a deep error in your code and RSpec is only displaying a shallow backtrace.
5 Tips to Become a Productive Coder
Avoid distractions. Programmers are usually computer savvy and will have a variety of applications open all day. Close down your RSS reader, Twitter client, etc and stick to a few hours of solid coding per day.
Avoid pre-mature optimization. You may not even keep the part of code you are writing right now, so why spend the effort to right it and optimize it if you will end up throwing it out...

I just finished reading Esquire’s profile on Usain Bolt and it made me think of Anderson Silva and his recent performance in UFC 112.
I’ve watched the post-fight interview and I don’t believe any of it. Aside from some of the bad translation by his manager, the gist of what Anderson Silva said was that Demian Maia crossed some sort of line. A fight between two Brazilians...

Microsoft on the Sidekick Debacle
Microsoft corporate vice president Roz Ho said the data loss problem has been traced to a “system failure that created data loss in the core database and the back-up.”
ORLY?! The system failure caused data loss in your primary database, then drove to your offsite backup location and then peed on all the other backups? Just admit it: you either didn’t have backups or your backups were stored...

I am a Conservative
This morning I was awoken by my alarm clock powered by electricity generated by the public power monopoly regulated by the U.S. Department of Energy. I then took a shower in the clean water provided by a municipal water utility. After that, I turned on the TV to one of the FCC-regulated channels to see what the National Weather Service of the National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration...

Optimism Tax
From time to time it seems your good intentions are taken for granted. Sometimes you are exploited and taken advantage of resulting in a loss of monies and/or personal things. You are then left with the choice: lose your faith and trust in mankind and express a general distrust toward everyone, or accept the loss as a tax to maintain your optimism and belief that man is overall good. The former...
