It’s a massive investment by the US Govt. buying a large amount of risky securities on margin.

When Treasury Secretary Paulson was asked what would happen if the bailout were to fail, he responded, “it has to work.”

If this risky ordeal were even to succeed, how will tax payers even be informed of the net gains, when the details of the securities (pricing, risk, etc) are not even being revealed?

So in short, whether the proposal succeeds or fails, Americans lose.

Rethink Your Assumptions

Today is hump day and so I would like to leave you with a thought:

What better time than now to rethink all of your assumptions about everything? If you aren’t loving your work or your life, now is the time to ask yourself why not. Often we get into our day to day routines and stop asking ourselves what it is that actually makes us happy. For each of us the answer will be different, but finding that answer will likely bring us the long missing joie de vive.

Ask yourself why things are and answer those questions with new answers, not the ones you’ve been using all these years.

The Creative Personality

The Creative Personality:
A psychologist’s breakdown of the makeup of a creative mind.

Actually, no one has asked, but I feel compelled to share.

Ultimately, I don’t share my viewpoints on politics because frankly I don’t think they matter. Now after reading that you may be nodding your head in agreement, but hold on. I also don’t think your viewpoints matter. We each only get a single vote, and most of our minds are made up very early in the process even before the VeeP-stakes. So whether Obama picks a frog to be his running-mate or McCain picks inmate #47392, its all inconsequential to most of us.

The candidates and pundits can come up with hundreds of reasons on why the other candidate is a lunatic and will destroy America, but somehow the people who’ve already made up their mind always have a rebuttal.

“That man played golf with SATAN on Thursday!!” says mud-slinger.

“You are mistaken and the words you speak aren’t even credible because you don’t even have a library card!” says staunch supporter.

“HAHA! That anti-Amercian doesn’t even have a library card!” say all the mud-slingers in unison.

And so it goes… America has survived this long with crazy Republicans and Democrats, it’ll likely survive another 4 to 8 years. So relax, the best you can do is vote for the one whom you think will mess up the least.

Apple Special Event Prediction

I predict the Apple Special Event in 7 minutes will cause a greater loss of US productivity than March Madness. Something I can use alongside Firebug.” But then that got me thinking about Safari. If Apple helps develop WebKit, and Google Chrome uses WebKit, why doesn’t Apple’s Safari have this feature? Turns out it does and all you need to do to enable it is type this in a terminal:

defaults write com.apple.Safari WebKitDeveloperExtras -bool true

Once enabled, you can right-click any element on a page and the “Inspect Element” option will appear in the context menu. Don’t share this with your friends though, apparently everyone already knows about this except you and I.

Coda (Ultra-Brief Review?)

I started using Panic’s Coda for CSS/HTML designing and I have been really amazed. The app isn’t for complete CSS newbies, in the sense of Dreamweaver, but it does help a lot if you already write your CSS by hand.

The app I used for CSS prior to this was the glorious Textmate. While I haven’t yet gotten used to not having the Textmate keyboard shortcuts, I find having all CSS properties for all elements displayed right in front of you extremely handy. I am no CSS or design expert, so your mileage may vary, but I do believe this is worth a shot.

The two gripes I have with the software are a Hex-Decimal color picker and the price. The former isn’t really Panic’s fault as the built-in Mac OS X color picker doesn’t include a hexidecimal color picker by default. I did find a nice free plugin that works well, though. As for the price, its about twice as much as Textmate and I use it less than half as much. So we’ll see what happens at the end of this trial.

Amazing new Firefox plugin.

I like to listen. I have learned a great deal from listening carefully. Most people never listen.

I’d like to to clarify that a bit, or at least what it means to me. People speak and others listen all the time, so how is this any different?

The main thing to consider is this: do you really listen, especially at those times where what is being said may not seem important? You can tell a lot about a person by how he or she reacts in a situation that is less than ideal.

For example, pretend you are behind a person at some burger joint, and their order is presented to them and is completely the opposite of what they ordered. How does that person act? Apply the same to a person, who is very late for a flight, and gets stuck in traffic or in the security check.

What is being said may not even come from the person’s mouth, but much is still said. So next time you find someone in one of these situations, take a step back and analyze their behavior. Also, analyze your own when you find yourself in one of those moments. There is a lot to be learned.

"For sale: Baby shoes, never worn."

“For sale: Baby shoes, never worn.”

- Hemingway’s famous six-word novel that his friends bet him he couldn’t write.

Photo
